Job Description

Description

The Grounds Maintenance Lead assists the Facility Manager in the care and maintenance of ballfields, soccer fields, parks, green spaces, and grounds for the City of Maumelle. This position assumes the responsibilities of the Facility Manager in their absence.

Requirements

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Ensure that tools and equipment needed to perform assigned task are clean and in good working condition.
  2. Ensure all employees have necessary safety equipment for daily tasks assigned (hearing and eye protection, wearing proper clothing, footwear, etc.).
  3. Make certain that all equipment and tools are clean, in good working condition, and returned to the designated storage area at the end of each day.
  4. Report status of assigned tasks to the Facility Manager daily and weekly.
  5. Report any unsafe or inoperative equipment/tools to the Facility Manager for repairs or removal from service.
  6. Maintain the grass and vegetation in parks and and public areas throughout the city.
  7. Cut down or trim trees on City-owned property, and in parks.
  8. Assist with the identification and completion of necessary facility repairs.
  9. Maintain shops, storage facilities, and equipment yards pertaining to the department.
  10. Act as Facility Manger in their absence.
  11. Collect debris in or on ballfields, parks, and designated areas.
  12. Operate equipment needed to perform essential duties (tractor, bush hog, mower, weed eater, various hand and power tools).
  13. Report any unsafe conditions in maintained areas to your direct supervisor.
  14. Monitor tasks completed by Parks Maintenance Operators. 
  15. Manage the performance and upkeep of irrigation systems.
  16. Anticipate and prepare for other duties and tasks as needed or assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to fulfill the essential duties are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion high school or equivalent and one to two (1-2) years of supervisory experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 

  • This position directly supervises up to five (5) Operators, and up to two (2) Seasonal Laborers.
  • This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws.  
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees with assistance from Facility Manager, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Assisting Facility Manager in the employee performance evaluation process of personnel under their direct supervision.
