Department: Home Hospice

Position Description

Will supervise the services of the Hospice and its branches, if applicable, and oversee all business development. Functions independently with minimal supervision.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Always maintains availability during operating hours for guidance, supervision and discipline of clinical staff or arranges for qualified alternate to be available in his/her absence. 
  • Assures that there is 24-hour a day RN availability for guidance, coordination and provision of patient care. 
  • Participates in all activities relevant to the professional services furnished, including the development of qualifications, assurance of competency and assignment of personnel. 
  • Delegates and assigns tasks to unlicensed personnel and provides supervision and guidance.
  • Initiates and provides follow up regarding incident reports or grievances, keeping required documentation according to Hospice policy. 
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with and provides community education to local communities, medical community and other health care entities. 
  • Assures clinical staff complies with accepted professional standards and principles. 
  • Maintains patient rights and dignity.  Assures the care of the dying patient, optimizing his/her comfort and dignity. (100%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.      
  • Participates in the oversight and guidance of coordination of services at the Hospice and its branches.
  • Participates in the QAPI Committee.
  • Possesses adequate knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and insurance standards to ensure reimbursement for all services rendered.
  • Reviews all contracts for business.
  • Maintains financial reports and budgets for the health of company.
  • Assists in marketing and overseeing of marketing department.

 

Communication and Interpersonal Relationship Skills

  • Maintains a friendly yet professional demeanor when interacting with the patient, caregiver and family, as well as, with members of the interdisciplinary team and office support staff.
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to supervise in accordance with Hospice's policies and applicable laws
  • Math skills commiserate with reading and interpreting financial reports
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and billing software
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. 
  • Performs job with enthusiasm and a positive approach.
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and supports the patient’s right to privacy.

Education

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: 1-year experience in healthcare obtained within the last 36 months; supervisory experience preferred

  • Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to see; close, distance, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus.
