Abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents and assigns appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes to patient records according to established procedures. Works with coding databases and confirms DRG assignments. Inputs and maintains data on procedures required for state or other reporting. May require an associate degree. Typically requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A02-Intermediate : Works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Typically requires 1-3 years of related experience, or may need 0 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
