- Assist skilled trades personnel and co-workers with maintenance and repair projects.
- Respond to work orders in a timely and efficient manner and complete assigned tasks with accuracy.
- Maintain and operate tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe and proper working condition.
- Climb ladders, work at heights, and operate from elevated platforms as required.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs and assigned tasks.
- Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and safe upon completion of tasks.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, supervisors, and department personnel regarding maintenance needs and project status.
- Support preventative maintenance efforts for facilities, tools, and equipment.
- Assist in identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and report issues that cannot be resolved independently.
- Adhere to all district policies and procedures, as well as applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Georgia Driver's License required
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record for insurability
- Experience in general maintenance, facilities, or construction-related work preferred
- Working knowledge of general maintenance practices and basic building systems
- Ability to safely use tools, equipment, and maintenance vehicles
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong work ethic and reliability in completing assigned duties
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships
- Basic problem-solving skills related to maintenance and facility operations
- Follow all established safety procedures and protocols
- Operate equipment in accordance with safety standards
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in safe operating condition

Position Purpose
The General Maintenance Mechanic supports the Plant Operations Department by performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and facility support tasks to ensure safe, functional, and efficient school environments. This position assists in maintaining district facilities, equipment, and systems in accordance with district standards and safety regulations.
