Job Description

Corrugated Packaging Designer – $61,000–$70,000 – Baltimore, MD (Onsite)

$61,000–$70,000 per year | Full-Time | Onsite | Limited Relocation Assistance | No Visa Sponsorship

We are conducting a confidential search for a Corrugated Packaging Designer to develop and refine structural packaging solutions within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for creating accurate structural layouts, samples, and production-ready specifications that align with customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.

This is an onsite role in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

Position Responsibilities

Design & Drafting
• Design corrugated packaging including RSC, FOL, die cuts, displays, and inserts
• Create 2D structural drawings using ArtiosCAD or similar CAD software
• Modify designs to improve performance, cost efficiency, and manufacturability
• Develop structural samples for customer approval
• Coordinate with tooling vendors and graphics teams for print plate alignment

Material & Specification
• Apply knowledge of corrugated materials including ECT, Mullen grades, fluting, and board combinations
• Determine proper board grade based on stacking strength and shipping requirements
• Prepare detailed manufacturing specifications for production

Production & Tooling Support
• Ensure designs are manufacturable on flexo, die cutter, and gluer equipment
• Assist with troubleshooting fit or production issues
• Manage tooling inventory, repairs, and cost estimation
• Inspect incoming tooling for compliance and damage

Customer & Sales Collaboration
• Work with sales teams to translate customer needs into practical packaging solutions
• Support customer presentations and technical discussions
• Develop prototypes for demonstrations

Documentation & Quality
• Maintain organized records of design files, revisions, print plates, and specifications
• Ensure compliance with industry and internal quality standards



Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Packaging, Engineering, Industrial Design, CAD Drafting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 2–3 years of corrugated packaging design experience
• Proficiency with ArtiosCAD, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD software
• Experience designing RSC, FOL, die cuts, displays, and inserts
• Strong understanding of corrugated materials, flutes, board grades, and packaging performance
• Ability to read and create technical drawings and blueprints
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with digital cutting tables (Kongsberg)
• Knowledge of flexographic printing processes
• Familiarity with TOPS or packaging performance standards
• Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
