General Summary

 

In alignment with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the English Teacher is responsible for instructing students in one subject area.  As a member of the professional staff, the teacher has responsibilities in the areas of: instruction, curriculum development, classroom management, student relations, parent and community relations, and staff relations. 

 

About the Role


  1. Displays a high degree of knowledge in the subject matter assigned and is continuing to increase competency.
  2. Organizes learning activities to provide varied classroom activities that are congruent with educational goals and objectives.
  3. Applies sound principles of learning and motivation in the planning, delivery and assessment phases of instructional delivery.
  4. Uses technology as a tool within the classroom and as a management tool.
  5. Establishes effective relationships with students and models respect for and acceptance of all persons in the school setting.
  6. Establishes effective relationships with parents, community and other staff members.
  7. Maintains professional ethics and responsibilities including participation in the total school program.
  8. Demonstrates a commitment to the district’s school improvement process, school-based governance system, and curriculum development efforts.
  9. Uses district goals and objectives to plan and implement a cohesive curriculum.
  10. Demonstrates experience working with a diverse student population and/or a history of promoting diversity through their practices.

 

 

Education, Knowledge and Skills Required

 

  1. Valid Michigan certification as a secondary teacher in English with the BA endorsement.
  2. Has experience working with a diverse student population and/or a history of promoting diversity through their practices.
  3. Ability and desire to carry out all duties of the position.
  4. Ability to learn and use the computer systems within the classroom for instruction and for management.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth.
