Job Description

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY


The Engineering Technician is responsible for hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of electronic and electro-mechanical systems used in satellite and ground equipment.


This role sits between a traditional technician and an engineer, combining practical manufacturing work with a strong understanding of systems, testing, and problem-solving. The position involves working closely with engineers on hardware builds, supporting integration and test activities, and contributing to the development of manufacturing and AIT processes.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS


Assembly & Integration (AIT)



  • Perform hands-on assembly and integration of electronic and electro-mechanical systems

  • Integrate subsystems into larger assemblies following engineering documentation

  • Support prototype builds and low-volume satellite production




PCBA / SMT Manufacturing Support



  • Operate and support SMT production processes (printing, pick-and-place, reflow)

  • Perform PCB assembly, soldering, and component replacement

  • Conduct inspection according to IPC-A-610 standards

  • Perform rework, repair, and modification according to IPC-7711/7721




Harness Assembly



  • Assemble cable harnesses including wire preparation, crimping, and connector integration

  • Route harnesses and ensure correct installation within assemblies

  • Inspect harness assemblies according to IPC-620 standards




Testing & AIT Activities



  • Support functional, environmental, and system-level testing (thermal, vibration, electrical)

  • Assist with test setup, execution, and basic troubleshooting

  • Record and report test results




Quality & Inspection



  • Perform in-process inspection of assemblies

  • Identify defects and non-conformances

  • Ensure compliance with workmanship and quality standards




Manufacturing & Process Support



  • Work closely with engineering teams to support new product introduction (NPI)

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of manufacturing and AIT processes

  • Provide feedback on design for manufacturability and integration




Documentation & Traceability



  • Follow controlled work instructions and engineering documentation

  • Record manufacturing and testing activities in MES/ERP systems

  • Maintain traceability of components and assemblies




Mentoring & Team Support



  • Support and guide junior technicians

  • Promote best practices in workmanship and quality


QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES


Education / Training


Technical training in electronics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, electromechanics, or a related field OR equivalent hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing and AIT activities.


Candidates without formal technical diplomas are encouraged to apply if they have strong relevant practical experience.




Experience



  • Experience in electronics manufacturing, AIT, or electro-mechanical assembly

  • Experience with hardware integration, testing, or satellite/system-level assembly is highly desirable

  • Experience in SMT, PCB assembly, or harness manufacturing




Technical Skills



  • Strong hands-on experience with assembly, integration, and testing

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams

  • Experience with soldering, crimping, and electronic assembly tools

  • Understanding of testing processes and basic troubleshooting




Preferred Qualifications



  • IPC-A-610, IPC-620, or IPC-7711/7721 certifications

  • Experience in aerospace or high-reliability electronics manufacturing

  • Experience working in cleanroom or controlled environments

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS



  • Eligibility for ESA/EU/NATO/National SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such clearance

  • Willingness to work at least 60% onsite from office
