*Summer Camp will run from June 8th - July 31st, 2026. All candidates are expected to be available to work the entire duration of Camp.*
A camp counselor monitors and facilitates the activities of the Village’s youth camp programs with an emphasis on summer camps. Employees within this classification primarily serve as youth camp leaders for assigned camp programs and provide leadership in recreational and educational activities and services.
Position Duties
- Monitors youth program participants for assigned camp programs at an assigned recreational facility during specified hours.
- Plans and conducts activities, organizes and supervises programs and games, and maintains order and discipline among participants.
- Maintains and issues equipment to participants and is responsible for equipment return.
- Responds to inquiries regarding program specifics from various entities; e.g., parents, program participants, children, program staff and the general public.
- Performs routine custodial and maintenance tasks to ensure facilities and grounds are clean and safe and that equipment is safe to operate.
- Prepares clear and accurate basic reports.
- Organizes and maintains program records.
- Checks in registered participants and guests to the facility.
- Monitors participants’ actions and activities in accordance with standard and established safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- Previous work/volunteer experience or training in recreational, social, sports or arts activities.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification (or willing to take a class to become certified prior to start date).
- Ability to develop youth participation and interest in assigned recreational activities and programs.
Camp Counselor Starting Pay Scale:
$17.04/hour - High School Graduate or College Student
$18.50/hour - Counselor with 2-year or 4-year degree and experience
$20.00/hour - Lead Counselor
$23.00/hour - Certified Teacher

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subjected to unpleasant environmental factors, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather, etc.
