SUMMARY: Provides health services and related support to students at one or more assigned schools. Maintains current and accurate student health data in confidential files.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses ill and injured students, working in cooperation with the Registered Nurse to ensure that appropriate care is provided
- Maintains accurate, current logs and codes all injuries and illnesses
- Creates health folders for new students
- Reviews and updates all student health records to include immunization verification and other relevant data
- Screens for a variety of health related problems as required, including, but not limited to, screenings for vision health, hearing, dental health, Scoliosis, and Pediculosis
- Prepare Nurses’ Reports for Special Education/Speech students
- Prepares Arizona Vision, Hearing, and Immunization reports (annually)
- Enters student emergency card information in the computer system
- Dispenses medication to students in accordance with State, Federal and local laws and district guidelines or policies, or instructions by licensed medical personnel
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of procedures for vision and hearing screenings, blood pressure screenings, CPR and first aid
- Ability to safely and accurately operate audiometer, otoscope, blood pressure monitor, and stethoscope
- Ability to work effectively with students and establish rapport
- Ability to maintain complete confidentiality of student medical records and proprietary information
- Knowledge of rules and standards of student health standards
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies
- Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Open Airways for Schools Certification
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Prior experience providing health services in a school setting
- College coursework related to healthcare professions beneficial
- Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
Computer Proficiency: Word standard, Excel standard and Outlook standard

The employee is frequently required to work indoors and may also work outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat or cold temperatures, wind, rain, dust or other adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Contact with employees, students and public.
