Description

Job Summary
Perform accurate, quality clinical laboratory tests, both waived and non-waived. Adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures and ensure patient confidentiality. Follow universal precautions and laboratory safety protocols. Incumbent will also perform administrative tasks/duties for the lab.  All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements, policies and relevant laws.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Perform all aspects related to specimen handling, such as being an expert phlebotomist and aliquoting samples. Be able to order tests and accession patients in the EHR.
2. Provide appropriate information concerning send-out tests. 
3. Provides special instructions to patients and other staff concerning the proper collection and handling of specimens and counsel patients on dietary or drug monitoring restrictions and changes to be made prior to and during certain laboratory tests.
4. Perform standardized tests and complex non-standardized tests and procedures independently. 
5. Abides by the guidelines, instructions, standards and control systems for evaluating and measuring the accuracy of results.
6. Performs proficiency testing.
7. Adheres to standardized preventive maintenance clinic guidelines.
8. Be familiar with policy and procedure manuals in all laboratory areas.
9. Maintain strong computer skills. Be able to enter results and verify and retrieve data in the Electronic Health Record.  
10. Assists the supervisor in establishing expanded programs.
11. Combine tests with other clinic information to aid the physician in the screening and diagnosis of patients.
12. Provide results to primary providers on most tests within a normal workday.  
13. Must be able to perform most testing on an ASAP basis. STAT tests will be performed and reported immediately. Abnormal results are flagged in the EHR and critical results are brought to the immediate attention of the primary provider. 
14. Perform and complete administrative tasks/duties for the lab as assigned.
15. Provide medical staff with information regarding the interpretation of lab results. 
16. Perform EKGs.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field and one (1) year of successful experience in the Medical Technology and/or Clinical Laboratory field.
Or 
Associate’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field and two (2) years of successful experience in the Medical Technology and/or Clinical Laboratory field.
2. Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
3. Must have and maintain a CPR Certification.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
5. Demonstrated experience with computer software – e.g. Microsoft Office, 
6. Demonstrated experience with RPMS or other electronic healthcare system.
7. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
8. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.  
9. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in a Tribal Healthcare system.
2. Experience and/or knowledge of history, culture and health needs of Native American communities preferred.
