Description

We are seeking a part-time Latin Teacher to teach Latin to students in grades K–8 using Memoria

Press’s Lingua Latina curriculum. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Latin

grammar, pronunciation, and pedagogy, as well as a love for classical languages and the Catholic

intellectual tradition. This curriculum is intended to be accessible even to a teacher who is not familiar

with Latin. 


This position offers an opportunity to form young students in the language of the Church while cultivating habits of attention, memory, and disciplined thought.

Requirements

Curriculum & Instruction

  •  Teach Latin classes for grades K–8, using the Memoria Press curriculum (e.g., Prima Latina, Latina Christiana, First Form Latin, etc.).
  •  Deliver content in a clear, engaging, and age-appropriate manner across a wide developmental range.
  •  Emphasize memorization of vocabulary, declensions, conjugations, and basic translation.
  •  Foster an appreciation for the role of Latin in the Church, Western civilization, and classical education.
  •  Reinforce Latin through oral recitation, written exercises, and regular review.


Classroom Culture

  •  Maintain an orderly, joyful, and focused classroom environment conducive to memory and mastery.
  •  Encourage habits of attentiveness, perseverance, and precision in language learning.
  •  Promote virtues of diligence, humility, and intellectual curiosity.


Assessment & Communication

  •  Assign and assess student work regularly, including vocabulary quizzes, grammar drills, and translation exercises.
  •  Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress.
  •  Maintain accurate records and communicate with parents as needed.


Collaboration & Formation

  •  Work in collaboration with classroom teachers to support Latin integration and cross-curricular connections.
  •  Participate in occasional faculty meetings, professional development, and school liturgies.
  •  Support the school’s mission of forming students in both academic excellence and Catholic virtue.


Education & Experience

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Classics, Latin, Education, Theology, or a related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. A basic familiarity with Latin is preferred.
  •  Prior teaching experience, especially in a classical or Catholic setting, is highly valued.
  •  Familiarity with Memoria Press Latin curriculum is strongly preferred.

  •  Strong willingness to learn Latin grammar, pronunciation (ecclesiastical preferred), and pedagogy.
  •  Ability to teach a range of grade levels with clarity and enthusiasm.
  •  Joyful, practicing Catholic committed to the truths and traditions of the Church.
  •  Ability to manage a classroom with consistency, warmth, and clarity.


Preferred

  •  Experience with classical education and understanding of the Trivium.
  •  Familiarity with the liturgical and historical significance of Latin in the Church.
  •  Willingness to be mentored in classical pedagogy and school culture.

Physical Demands
