Saint Matthew’s School in Virginia Beach, VA is currently seeking a Physical Education Teacher’s Assistant.  The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic role model who is passionate about sharing the Catholic faith.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the teacher in implementing the daily program.
• Treating each child with dignity and respect.
• Recognizing and considering the individual needs of each child.
• Helping children to learn and think creatively to solve problems.
• Supervising the classroom according to the plans of the teacher when necessary.
• Fulfilling the role of the teacher in his/her absence
• Sharing with the teacher responsibility for maintaining the classroom.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications/Experience Required:

• High energy
• Ability to work well with others
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
•  An understanding of child development
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• High school diploma (or equivalent) and be at least 18 years of age

Full time position (10 Months), approximately 35 hours per week.
