Organizational Relationship


or Line of Authority:            Directly responsible to the Principal in all matters pertaining to the building.  Jointly responsible to the Director of Special Education in areas of curriculum, instruction, and special education.


 


Statement of Duties:



  • Confers with Principal to ensure compliance with pre-referral regulations.


 



  • Consults with building administrators and teachers to develop and support classroom modifications for students.


 



  • Works with Building Principal to coordinate pre-referral team.


 



  • Works with Building Principal to schedule students into integrated settings.


 



  • Mentors new teachers, interns, and student teachers.


 



  • Organizes and conducts the referral evaluation and program implementation process as mandated by Chapter 766.


 



  • Receives appropriate referrals and carries out the evaluation team process:


 



  1. Contacts parents (includes discussing the                                                                                          evaluation process, reviewing rights,                                                                                                 receiving written permission) facilitates                                                                                            assignment of testing.


 



  1. Facilitates assignment of testing.


 



  1. Notifies participants of Evaluation Team             meeting date.


 



  1. Chairs Evaluation Team.


 



  • Facilitates initial implementation of IEP:


 



  1. Responsible for assembling documents from various members of the IEP team to cause the IEP to be inclusive of all necessary information required.


 



  1. Secures signatures from Building Principal   and Director of Special Education.


 



  1. Distributes copies of IEP to appropriate        


 



  1. Monitors the timely completion of annual     reviews and re-evaluations.


 



  • Collaborates with other support staff to ensure student progress.


 



  • Organizes parent workshops, as directed, on special education procedures.


 



  • Serves as initial contact person for parent or agency referrals.


 



  • Provides constructive input to the Director of Special Education regarding building service needs.


 



  • Serves as liaison to appropriate outside agencies (eg. DSS, DYS, DMR, DMH, etc.).


 



  • Responsible for other duties as indicated by the director special education, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.  


Qualifications:



  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities or Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities – Required, SEI Endorsement Required.


 



  • Knowledge of curriculum modifications, behavior management strategies, and learning styles.


 



  • Knowledge of Special Education regulations and procedures.


 



  • Knowledge of integrated and inclusive models.


 



  • Experience in chairing Evaluation Team meetings.


 



  • Ability to work closely and harmoniously with parents, teachers, and administrators.


 



  • Strong organizational skills and ability to deal with paperwork.


 



  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee may find appropriate.
