Job Description

 

Job Title:                                Accounting Clerk

Classification:                        Non-Exempt/Hourly

Reports To:                            RCHC Controller

Position Type:                       Full-Time

Summary:

Responsible for accounting duties assigned by the Controller, including calculating, posting, and verifying financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records. Examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures. Additional time may be required periodically to assist with accounting, special projects, and audits. Works cooperatively with all hospital departments, medical staff, patients, and visitors. 

 

Essential Functions Accounting Clerk

  1. Demonstrates the ability to assist in coordinating the hospital’s accounting services in a manner in keeping with hospital’s day-to-day financial needs.
  2. Assists in monitoring activities continually regarding accounts payable, and general hospital accounting, vendors, and benefit programs that RCHC is affiliated with.
  3. Effectively utilizes and understands the departmental computer system to realize its optimal potential.
  4. Consistently demonstrates good organizational skills in the routine accumulation of statistical information and reports it to the Controller in an accurate and timely manner.
  5. Effectively maintains all required records for the department.
  6. Shows ability to use computer systems, calculator & related equipment.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information. 
  8. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with departments and staff.
  9. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.
  10. Support financial processes and record keeping for the Hospital Foundation. 
  11. Demonstrates cash management ability in keeping with daily duties. Including monthly bank reconciliations.
  12. Demonstrates effective departmental filing practices.
  13. Attends meetings and/or educational programs as may be required.
  14. Provide support for additional finance, administrative and organizational projects as assigned to meet business needs. 
  15. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Controller.

 

Essential Functions 

  1. Assists Controller in monitoring activities continually regarding accounts payable, and general hospital accounting with staff, vendors, cash management and benefit programs that RCHC is affiliated with.
  1. Prepare and post journal entries as directed by the Controller.
  2. Assist with monthly quarterly, and year-end close activities.
  3. Assist with bank, credit card and account reconciliations. 
  4. Assist with maintaining general ledger accuracy and supporting documentation.
  5. Ensure invoices and financial documents are properly coded and approved.
  6. Maintain organized vendor files.
  7. Process vendor invoices, match purchase orders, and prepare payments. 
  8. Provide administrative and clerical support for the Hospital Foundation.
  9. Maintain electronic and paper filing systems for accounting records.
  10. Assist Controller in generating routine financial and operational reports. 
  11. Provide administrative support to the Controller and CFO.

  • Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Suite; Office, Excel, etc..

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

 

Position Qualifications: 

Minimum Education: Completion of high school or equivalent required. Associate's or bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience preferred.

Minimum Experience: Previous financial experience in hospital or public accounting; or any combination of experience, education, and training which would provide the level of knowledge, skills, and ability required.

Working Environment: Majority of work time spent sitting in departmental confines; some movement about office and business department necessary.
