    POSITION TITLE: Head Start Family Advocate

    F.L.S.A. Exempt 

    QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or a related field.

    REPORTS TO:     Building Principal

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      174 days, with a stipend for 10 additional days. 

    JOB GOAL: A Head Start Family Advocate acts as a crucial liaison between families, the Head Start program, and community resources to support child development and family well-being. They help parents set goals, access services, and build on family strengths to foster long-term self-sufficiency and children's school readiness. 

    KEY FUNCTIONS: 

    1. Family Partnership: Collaborating with families to develop individualized family support plans, set goals, and track progress.

    2. Resource Connection: Linking families to community resources for health, dental, and mental health services, as well as job training and social services.

    3.Communication Bridge: Facilitating communication between parents and teachers to support children's learning and development.

    4. Advocacy & Support: Empowering parents to become advocates for their children and participate in program-level decision-making, such as Policy Councils.

    5.Recruitment & Enrollment: Identifying eligible families and assisting with the application process.

    6. Family engagement programming, collaborating with staff, volunteers, to coordinate meaningful engagement opportunities for families that meet our philosophy.
