Position Duties
- Assists with orienting new students to CDL classroom facilities, training equipment, program expectations, safety rules, and procedures.
- Provides classroom support by reinforcing course content, answering student questions, and assisting with learning activities under faculty direction.
- Supports students during pre-trip inspection training, including identifying components, explaining procedures, and reinforcing proper inspection sequences in accordance with Davis Tech/FMCSA standards.
- Assists instructors on the backing range, helping guide students through backing maneuvers, observing safety practices, and reinforcing correct techniques.
- Monitors student engagement and progress during classroom, range, and yard activities and communicates concerns to faculty as needed.
- Promotes a strong culture of safety by modeling proper procedures and ensuring students follow established safety guidelines at all times.
- Mentors students by encouraging professionalism, job readiness, punctuality, and effective communication.
- Assists with maintaining accurate attendance and participation records as required by the program.
- Helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, range, and training area, including appropriate use of equipment and supplies.
- Assists with setup, organization, and basic upkeep of CDL training equipment and materials used for classroom, pre-trip, and backing instruction.
- Contributes to a respectful, team-oriented learning environment that supports collaboration, communication, and student success.
- Coordinates with faculty and staff to address student needs and support retention and completion goals.
- May assist with tutoring, skills practice sessions, or supplemental instruction as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of the Davis Technical College CDL Program.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Ability to pass and maintain DOT physical, drug and alcohol screening, and background checks.
- Strong knowledge of CDL pre-trip inspection procedures and basic backing maneuvers.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students in a learning environment.
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Prior experience assisting with CDL instruction, training, or peer mentoring.
- Experience working on a CDL backing range or yard environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a student-focused approach to instruction.
