Job Description
Strengthening and empowering all of the communities we serve.

NJ.com is seeking a dynamic and versatile NJ Devils Reporter & YouTube Host to join our award-winning Pro and College Sports team.

In this role, you’ll become the leading voice for Devils coverage by creating compelling, fan-focused video content for our “Speaking of the Devils” YouTube channel while also producing high-impact written work for NJ.com.

This is a creator-first role built around storytelling, personality and audience growth. You’ll connect with passionate Devils fans across platforms — delivering original video, engaging with the community and publishing written work that complements and amplifies your coverage.

We’re looking for a multimedia journalist with an engaging on-camera presence who can host, report, produce and innovate across platforms. You understand hockey culture and its fans, recognize what resonates and know how to build a loyal following.

This is a rare chance to build and own Devils and hockey coverage on YouTube for NJ.com. You’ll have the freedom to experiment, develop your voice, and grow a loyal audience around the Devils, while working closely with our editorial team.

If you are energized by hosting a YouTube show, telling stories in new ways and building genuine connections with fans, we want to hear from you.

The base salary range is $65,000 - $75,000 per year.

This job requires reliable transportation to cover games and practices and meet with sources, plus limited overnight travel for significant away games.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Become the go-to reporter on the Devils beat by breaking news and uncovering original, exclusive information told through written work and on NJ.com’s “Speaking of the Devils” YouTube channel
  • Serve as the on-camera host and primary voice of “Speaking of the Devils”
  • Create, produce and publish original video content (live analysis, reactions, interviews, features) that connects with fans
  • Cover the Devils on-site at games, practices and key events
  • Write stories that drive traffic and subscriptions
  • Engage directly with the Devils fan community across YouTube, social and NJ.com platforms
  • Experiment with new formats, trends and storytelling approaches to grow reach and loyalty
  • Track performance metrics (content views, subscriptions, video views, watch time, engagement) and adjust strategy accordingly

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least three years of experience in reporting, writing, and editorial storytelling; preferably covering college or professional sports
  • Sound reporting instincts and journalism fundamentals, including sourcing and accuracy
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clean, compelling digital stories
  • Strong on-camera presence with the ability to connect authentically with fans
  • Proven ability to create engaging video content for YouTube and social platforms, including comfort with shooting, producing and editing video
  • Creative storytelling abilities to generate original ideas and execute them independently
  • Data-aware mindset — understands what performs and why and how to translate that into an authentic following
  • Deep understanding of hockey fandom — Devils is a bonus — and what drives conversation and interest
  • Ability to self-motivate and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving digital environment
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends during the season

When applying, please include links to your best video work, YouTube channels or social content. Show us what you can do. A cover letter is optional.
