 Astemo Rock Spring, Inc. was established in 2000 and supplies aluminum knuckles to Honda and Subaru.  We are located in Rock Spring, GA, and operate on 3 shifts with 400 employees.  We have three main manufacturing departments, Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly.  We are part of  Astemo, inc. with 90,000 employees worldwide.

As a Maintenance Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the maintenance department and ensuring the efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for developing and implementing maintenance programs, managing budgets, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. With your strong leadership skills, you will lead a team of Maintenance Supervisors and technicians to ensure the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. This position reports to the Head of Engineering and offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the reliability, productivity, and overall success of our operations.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional leadership and direction to the maintenance department, overseeing all maintenance activities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance programs, including preventive maintenance strategies, to optimize equipment reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to prioritize maintenance needs and schedule activities, ensuring minimal impact on production activities.
  • Proactively manage maintenance budgets, ensuring cost control measures and efficient resource allocation, while maximizing the value of maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and analyze equipment performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary corrective actions to minimize downtime and increase efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance overall maintenance effectiveness.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders, including the Site Head, engineering teams, production teams, and senior management, providing updates on maintenance activities and progress.
  • Ensure the safety of the team members, be responsible for the safety of our equipment and work on safety measures as a top priority.
  • For each project, allocate required resources, organize and ensure that the team members fully understand the importance of the project.
  • Be responsible for numerical results for the project by managing the progress of the project and addressing the gap that occurred.
  • Proactively manage maintenance budget to reduce maintenance expenses and maximize efficiency of maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to the planned production volume by providing a good quality product with equipment, in which maintenance was performed.
  • Identify a root cause and implement targeted improvement by carrying out a high precision data analysis to prevent issues from being repeated.
  • Facilitate the use of human resources with technical knowledge and experience or plan and provide the required training to develop a maintenance technician and to build the team.
  • Actively cooperating with a new model and a new project and moving forward with a launch satisfying SQCD.
  • Support creating a month end report based on a data analysis, visualizing the progress of a project.

Safety & Environmental:     

  • Promote and enforce a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations always.
  • Implement and maintain stringent environmental practices that align with relevant standards and regulations.

Quality:

  • Establish and maintain robust quality control processes for maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to quality standards and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance teams to identify opportunities for quality enhancement within the maintenance department.

Delivery:

  • Coordinate maintenance schedules effectively to minimize disruption to production activities and meet production goals.
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to prioritize maintenance tasks based on criticality, ensuring on-time completion and optimal equipment availability.
  • Monitor performance metrics closely to optimize maintenance delivery, meet key performance indicators, and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.

Productivity:

  • Proactively identify opportunities for productivity improvement within the maintenance department, engaging in continuous evaluation and optimization of processes.
  • Implement measures to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize resource utilization in maintenance operations.
  • Collaborate actively with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and achieve operational excellence.

Reporting:

  • Prepare regular comprehensive reports on maintenance activities, performance metrics, and improvement initiatives, providing valuable insights to the Site Head and senior management.
  • Collaborate with team members to gather and analyze relevant data for reporting purposes, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

Preferred Skills:  

  • Possess exceptional leadership abilities with a strong focus on team development and empowerment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the automotive industry or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in advanced maintenance techniques and technologies, staying up to date with industry advancements.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software, leveraging technology to enhance maintenance effectiveness.
  • Sound understanding of Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies, applying them to drive efficiency and optimize processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with an ability to effectively resolve complex maintenance issues.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for reporting and presentation purposes.

Minimum Experienced Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in maintenance management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance principles, best practices, and advanced technologies.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies is highly advantageous.

  • Optimize maintenance productivity metrics, including preventive maintenance completion, work order turnaround time, and labor efficiency.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting of heavy objects.
