Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool.
The Recreational Swim Team Assistant Coach is responsible for managing and developing swimming skills enhancement programs within the Recreational Swim Team program.
Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with youth and parents by encouraging participants with honest, direct, and appropriate feedback using the Y voice attributes.
- Create a safe environment for participants through appropriate class control, by role modeling safe behaviors, maintaining a clutter-free deck, and being on time and ready to respond quickly and appropriately.
- Implement the established curriculum that helps youth achieve the five Cause Measurement goals.
- Adapt lessons as necessary to help kids succeed. Utilize Y resources and best practices from other instructors to develop this skill.
- Engage in intentional conversation with students and parents regarding swimmer progression, retention, and placement using the Y voice attributes and an appropriate level of discretion.
- Build specific workouts for individuals or groups based on initial skills assessment and ongoing evaluation.
- Attend practices and swim meets, as assigned, and provide on-site coaching.
- Actively listen to participants, make suggestions, and follow up to help ensure participants’ skill enhancement goals are met.
Qualifications:
- Age – Must be 16 years of age or older (certification or licensure requirements).
- Competitive swimming background required.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors (red, yellow, blue and green).
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- CPR/AED Certification - Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period.
- Coaches Safety – Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period.
- Certification attesting Safe Sports Training completion within 14 days of hire.
Schedule:
Approximately 10-12 hours weekly. Schedule of 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. You will start setting up for swim team around 4:30pm. You will have a 15-minute break before the next session of coaching which starts at 5:30pm and ends at 6:30pm with breakdown of practice afterwards.
