Under the general direction of the nurse manager and in cooperation with all the members of the patient care team, independently performs a wide range of customer relations, communication, administrative and coordinative functions to fully support patient care activities.



 



 



 



 RESPONSIBILITIES



* 



- Performs reception and communication duties to ensure all patient, visitor, physician, and staff needs are met in support of patient care, in a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner.



* 



- Utilizes all computer and manual systems for patient scheduling, registration, transfer, tracking, ordering and charging supplies, and other appropriate applications.



* 



- Receives, collates, processes, files, and otherwise appropriately maintains all patient medical records and functions relating to medical status and care, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.



* 



- Coordinates patient flow and processes to ensure patient is admitted and discharged within scheduled timeframe and with a maximum level of patient customer satisfaction.



* 



- Compiles and completes recurrent census reports, presents data, maintains updated and revised logs, manuals, and reference material.



* 



- Participates in educational activities to maintain and improve professional and technical development and increase skills, abilities, job knowledge, and competency.



 



- Performs other related duties as required.



 



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



·        -  Ability to operate office equipment, including computer terminals with speed and accuracy.



·         - Ability to interact with patient's families with tact and confidentiality.



·         - Ability to communicate effectively with Doctor's offices, department staff and patients.



·         - Knowledge of office and hospital systems.



·         - Ability to schedule and prioritize patient flow.



·         - Ability to work independently and to make decisions within the framework of departmental policies.



·         - Ability to provide repetitive movements and to stand for long periods of time.  Ability to manage stress and conflict in a time oriented environment.  Ability to flex work hours and rotate among job activities.



·         - Advanced level of accountability, problem solving, and interpersonal conflict resolution abilities.



 



EXPERIENCE



·    - High school graduate.



·     -   Graduate of Medical Secretary Program preferred.



-   - 2 years experience within the hospital system
