    Essential Skills Instructional Assistant

    Location: Southmont High School (grades 6-12+)

    Schedule: Full Time School Year -181 days - up to 40 hours per week - hourly pay -benefits eligible

    Position Purpose

    The Essential Skills Instructional Assistant supports students with diverse learning needs under the direction of a licensed teacher. The assistant works with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce academic, behavioral, and functional skills necessary for school success and independence.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Provide instructional support to students individually or in small groups.
    • Reinforce instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, and functional academic skills
    • Assist with implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and classroom learning activities.
    • Support students with communication, social skills, and daily living skills as directed by the teacher
    • Assist teachers with preparation of materials, assignments, and assessments.
    • Monitor student progress and report observations to the classroom teacher
    • Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment.
    • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and other school settings as assigned.
    • Support behavioral interventions and positive behavior strategies.
    • May need to assist with student's toileting needs
    • All other duties as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience working with school-age children is preferred.
    • Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain confidentiality.
    • Must pass required criminal background checks.


       

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience working with students with disabilities or special education programs.
    • Knowledge of instructional strategies and child development.
    • Ability to assist with technology and educational software used in the classroom.


       

    Physical and Work Requirements

    • Ability to assist students with mobility or physical support if needed.
    • Ability to remain active throughout the school day (standing, walking, assisting students)
    • Ability to maintain a positive and patient attitude in a fast-paced educational environment.
