Job Description

The successful candidate will provide instruction, services, consultation, coordination, planning, evaluation and remediation for individuals with learning difficulties, at elementary level. The Education Specialist will consistently collaborate with other general educators on pre-referral interventions, in addition to providing referral and assessment services to the school/student community.


 


Key Responsibilities


 


Plan, organize, and direct a variey of programs, projects and activities related to special education.


 


Prescribe and implement behavior management techniques as appropriate.


 


Prepare reports, records, and files including, but not limited to student qualifications, dates of IEP meetings.


 


Monitor student progress and use data collection to support research-based instruction and to demonstrate student achievement.


 


Communicate with charter school personnel to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts, and exchange information related to special education.


 


Minimum qualifications:


 


Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university


 


California Education Specialist Instruction Credential


 


CLAD or BCLAD or equivalent


 


NCLB compliant


 


Learning Center experience preferred


 


Spanish-speaking preferred (at least basic communication skills)


 


Knowledge of:


 


Special Education instruction practices and law


 


Response to Intervention theory

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide instruction and services for identified pupils who have an IEP. These students are assigned to general education classrooms for a majority of the school day.

Provide consultation, resource information and specific materials regarding individuals with disabilities to their general education teachers.

Coordinate resources for special education students.

Provide specialized academic instruction to special education students based on each student’s IEP.

Monitor student progress on IEP goals on a regular basis. Report findings to appropriate school personnel and parents on a scheduled basis.

Participate in the multi-disciplinary assessment of students for possible special education eligibility and triennial reviews.

Develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives. Develop linguistically appropriate goals if necessary.

Follow state and federal compliance mandates/timelines.

Provide information and assistance to parents of students with IEPs.

Provide staff development to school’s staff regarding students with disabilities.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree
CA Teaching Credential for Mild/Moderate Disabilities/Education Specialist
CLAD or other English Language Learner Authorization to teach English Language Learners

Work Experience: Experience teaching in the field of Special Education is required; not including student teaching.

Bilingual in English/Spanish (preferred)
