Job Description

Avalara is looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive execution excellence across a complex, distributed integration ecosystem spanning 20+ teams globally. This is a high-impact, urgent role focused on strengthening SDLC hygiene, KPI governance, and cross-team coordination.

 

You need to

  • Own and drive end-to-end program execution across multiple distributed engineering teams

  • Establish and enforce strong SDLC and Agile practices to improve delivery predictability

  • Define, track, and drive KPIs and operational metrics across programs

  • Act as the central point for cross-functional coordination and stakeholder alignment

  • Leverage AI tools and automation (e.g., Cursor, intelligent workflows/agents) to enhance productivity and efficiency

  • Proactively identify gaps and roll up sleeves to execute, not just manage

The role is based Remote – India (with flexibility to collaborate across time zones)

  • 5-10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management or similar roles

  • Experience working in product-based companies (mandatory)

  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and distributed team execution

  • Technical acumen (engineering background preferred or equivalent hands-on understanding)

  • Proven ability to manage high-visibility programs and global stakeholders (especially US teams)

  • Demonstrated ownership mindset, stability, and strong collaboration skills

  • Passion for AI-driven productivity and process innovation

Technical Fluency & System Design Standard 

  • Decompose large systems into components, services, APIs, data flows, and dependencies. 
  • Reason for scaling constraints, latency, reliability, and failure of handling. 
  • Identify the integration of contracts and articulate required parameters and error behaviors. 
  • Translate architectural discussions into execution plans with clear milestones and trade-offs. 
  • Ask structured technical questions that expose hidden assumptions before execution begins. 

Scope of Ownership 

Drives large cross-organizational initiatives impacting product direction, platform health, or operational maturity. 

Ensures all initiatives and roadmap items are explicitly tied to measurable business KPIs. 

Technical Depth 

Strong system-level reasoning. Capable of evaluating trade-offs across architecture, scalability, and reliability domains. 

Execution Discipline 

Designs and standardizes scalable execution mechanisms adopted across departments. 

Institutionalizes measurable delivery targets (e.g., >85% milestone adherence) and post-launch tracking including uptime, defect trends, and adoption signals. 

Influence 

Partners directly with senior leaders. Provides executive-ready risk framing and data-backed updates. 

Impact 

Elevates organizational performance through measurable program outcomes and sustained delivery under ambiguity. 

Delivers validated business KPI impact with documented post-launch performance results.
