Job Description

Be part of a close-knit, compassionate care team supporting patients through their recovery journey with dignity, respect, and hands-on care. This is a rewarding opportunity to directly impact patients' comfort and well-being every day while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic hospital environment.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Community-Centric: Pairing small town values with industry-leading standards, South Peninsula Hospital values and invests in our staff and deeply cares about our patients.
  • Benefits: This is not a benefited position. In lieu of benefits, an additional 15% premium is added to the base pay for all Per Diem (Casual) employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide essential personal care including bathing, grooming, feeding, mobility, and positioning support.
  • Collaborate closely with RNs and the acute care team to monitor and report changes in patient condition.
  • Accurately document care activities and patient observations in the electronic medical record.
  • Support patients with daily living activities while maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, transporting, and specimen collection as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification from the State of Alaska, with ongoing CEUs as required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with computers.
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to perform under emotional and mental pressure, including during emergencies.
  • Demonstrated independence and professionalism in patient care roles.
  • Physical requirement: Ability to walk, stand for long periods, lift heavy loads safely, and perform repetitive physical tasks.

ENVIRONMENT:

Located at South Peninsula Hospital’s 22-bed acute care and 28-bed long-term care facility in scenic South-Central Alaska, this role offers a positive, well-maintained work setting with moderate physical activity.
You’ll need mobility, manual dexterity, and the ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods. While the atmosphere is typically pleasant, PCTs may encounter job hazards such as exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, or injury when assisting patients with mobility.
