The Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely posting of all payments, adjustments, and denials reported to BMS in all formats. The Billing Specialist is responsible for the identification and facilitation of timely secondary insurance billing.  Knowledge on how to read, process Explanation of Benefits and Remittance, and advise is required. Understanding the revenue cycle, ICD10, and CPT-4 guidelines is required to identify trends and errors on EOBs and RAs. The specialist is required to understand and have knowledge on all payer contractual payments and carve-out rates. This individual is responsible for reconciliation of payment and adjustment posting to remittance totals. Work requires occasional communication outside of the work group. The Billing Specialist will assist in the reconciliation of unbilled charges from HER to EPM.  Proficient knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding guidelines is required.  This position will scrub and review charges prior to uploading from the holding tank into EPM.  Any missing or inaccurate charges identified are documented as a discrepancy for monthly reporting and provider correction.  The specialist is responsible for monitoring and following-up on outstanding charges and applying time-of-service payments to charges to ensure accurate patient statements.  This position will work with the Coding and Documentation Specialist to correct any CPT /DX issues prior to uploading charges in EPM.  Frequent communication outside of the work group is required to resolve disagreements, reach agreements and clarify issues/processes.

Requirements

Required Education:   
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
 
Required Experience: 
Three years’ experience in payment posting
Three to five years charge entry
