Job Description

Division/Department: Transitional and supportive housing/ Third Street Women’s Residence

Position Type: Regular, Full-Time

Pay: $45,000 annually

Location: Fully onsite – Lower East Side, New York, NY
Schedule:
35 hours per week (Shift-based schedule)

Available Shifts (7 days per week):

  • 5:30 PM – 1:30 AM
  • 1:30 AM – 9:30 AM

Available Shifts Weekends & Holidays:

  • 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Relief Coverage Requirement:
This position requires flexibility to cover additional shifts as needed in the event of staff callouts or no-shows (face-to-face relief coverage).

Program Overview

The Third Street Women’s Residence is a transitional shelter program serving 79 Unhoused women who are living with Behavioral health conditions and are seeking permanent housing. The program provides transitional housing and comprehensive supportive services designed to help residents stabilize, develop life management skills, and successfully transition to permanent housing. Staff provide social services and housing placement assistance while supporting residents in managing their mental health and achieving greater independence. When appropriate, residents are referred to community-based resources and partner organizations. 

Job Summary

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the residence during assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight coverage as scheduled. The Shift Supervisor provides direct supervision to program staff and ensures that residents receive services that meet regulatory, contractual, and agency standards, including housing placement outcomes. This role requires strong crisis management, operational oversight, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams to support residents and improve their quality of life and progress toward permanent housing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in human services, behavioral health Shelter, or a related field
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications within the first three (3) months of employment:
    • CPR/First Aid
    • Fire Safety Director / Fire Safety and Alarm Systems (F-80) certification
  • Experience providing crisis intervention
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Key Responsibilities

Staff Supervision

  • Train, coaching, and conduct performance evaluations for assigned staff
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure staff follow program policies and Henry Street Settlement Values

Client Services

  • Utilizing a client strength base and trauma informed approach and interview prospective residents and complete intake documentation
  • Conduct client assessments and document changes in condition or service needs
  • Develop practical service plans to support resident stability and housing goals
  • Provide crisis intervention and appropriate support during emergencies

Program Operations

  • Maintain safety and security within the residence
  • Conduct scheduled fire drills and ensure compliance with safety procedures
  • Perform regular facility walkthroughs and rounds to ensure compliance with fire safety and Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) standards
  • Maintain accurate client records, census logs, and program documentation

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Document incidents and ensure timely follow-up
  • Maintain accurate program records and client data

Collaboration

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review resident cases and service plans
  • Maintain effective communication across program units and staff teams
  • Build collaborative working relationships with internal staff and external partners

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain daily meal sign-in logs for residents
  • Track and maintain expenditure records
  • Support security, maintenance, and kitchen staff as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and walk stairs throughout the facility
  • Ability to work fully onsite in the Lower East Side
