Job Summary:
Electrical, Instrument, and Control Engineering Intern supports and/or leads projects and provides support to Manufacturing, Engineering, Maintenance, Process Development, and Information Systems.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Attributes – Independent, goal-oriented, team player, interested in learning and staying current with automation/controls technology. Detail-oriented with ability to work efficiently with a hands-on approach. Strong time management and organizational skills; capable of simultaneously managing multiple assignments.
- Problem Solver – Interface with other departments, such as Information Services, Maintenance, Production, Safety, etc. in both project and daily tasks. Resolve technical issues with practical, robust, and cost-effective solutions. Sift through conflicting information to arrive at logical conclusions.
- Project Support – Support CapEx projects by providing electrical and control related information, from cost estimates and design to installation and proof testing. Participating on project teams providing electrical support as needed.
- PLC Programming – Responsibilities include maintenance and development of PLC Systems and sub systems. Provide PLC (Allen-Bradley, DeltaV and/or Opto22) programming support for existing automated systems. Work includes Logic Programming, I/O addressing, HMI design, ladder logic and related documentation. Modify graphics as requested, to optimize process information.
- PLC Database Administration – Monitor control system data and resolve errors and data handling issues. Extract process data, as needed for process troubleshooting issues or upgrade projects. Collaborate with the IS Department to ensure accurate data transfer between the control system data collection/historian and the ERP system.
- Instrument/Equipment Specification and Purchasing – Size and Specify Instruments (Level, Pressure, Temperature, and Flow) and Electrical Equipment. Generate Instrument Specification Sheets, work with vendors, and follow through the Purchasing Process.
- Documentation Control – Produce and maintain a variety of records at all levels of project and daily workflow. Help with Project Development, Bid Packages, As-Builts, Engineering Changes, Work Orders, and other tasks. Coordinate information between P&IDs, PLC Programming, and ERP/MRP Databases. Drawings may include Loop Sheets, traditional Hardwire Diagrams, One-Line Drawings, and Instrument/Conduit/Wire Layout Drawings. Update all EI&C documentation as required.
- Electrical Safety – Ability and willing to learn NFPA 70 including sections on Area Classifications (Class I Div 1 and Class II Div 2), Explosion Proof and Intrinsically Safe Practices, Arc Flash, and Combustible Dust.
- Troubleshooting – Assist Maintenance and Production with electrical, instrumentation, and control issues. Ability to learn ladder logic, chart logic, structured text programming and symptom diagnosis methods.
Qualifications:
Required
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s in science, engineering, or a related field (preferably Electrical Engineering)
Desired
- Experience with PLC Programming (Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, DeltaV and/or Opto22 PAC); willingness and desire to learn all site control systems.
- Prior working experience in Food/Chemical/Pharmaceutical
- Experience with Rockwell FactoryTalk Batch, FactoryTalk View SE, HMI Software, and/or ISA88 Batch Control
