Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Performs chemical and microscopic tests in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and misc.
  2. Obtain specimens from patients including venous, capillary, and arterial blood, sputum, urine, etc.
  3. Performs special tests as required. Consults with Laboratory Director concerning difficult analyses and unusual or abnormal findings.
  4. Recognizes factors that affect procedures and results and takes appropriate actions within predetermined limits when corrections are indicated.
  5. Monitors quality control within predetermined limits.
  6. Rotates through various departments within the laboratory.
  7. Prepares reagents and solutions used in testing. Assists with monitoring of supplies inventory and maintains order list.
  8. Operates and maintains various laboratory instrumentation and equipment and instruments or referring to appropriate source for repairs.
  9. Assists with instruction of Student Medical Technologists as assigned.
  10. Rotates for coverage on all shifts as needed and assigned.
  11. Records test results and monitors values for critical (panic) levels and reports them to the appropriate persons.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
  13.
