General Repair Technician (Handyman)  

 

 

NATURE OF WORK 

 

The General Repair Technician/Handyman (GRT) reports to the Senior Director of operations. Responsible for basic repair orders and preventative maintenance of existing contracted units as well as emergency calls or one time specialty estimates. Perform repairs and PM work as requested on customer buildings or Encompass company equipment. Position may be a route assignment utilizing company vehicle or could report to a customer location. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Daily management of work orders issued by customer or Encompass.  
  • Ensure truck is stocked and fueled and ready for daily use. 
  • Purchase parts for the completion of daily work orders.
  • Close all work orders at the time of job completion in the system.
  • Check in with client at the beginning and end of each job. Ensure sign off for each completed work order by the client.
  • Confirm any change orders with manager or home office before completing job
  • Responsible for responding to all radio calls and cell phone requests from home office in a timely manner.
  • Work with Dispatch Manager on development plan to improve skills
  • Working with repairs, patching prepping and painting of walls
  • Troubleshooting, replacing ballasts, light bulbs, power plugs
  • Working with plumbing, repair of leaking faucets, repair or replace toilets, unclog toilets.
  • Working with carpentry, repair of walls, rails, steps, doors and windows
  • Working with floors, remove and replace tile floor, remove and replace carpets
  • Working exterior of facility under hot temperatures
  • Working with pressure washer
  • Working with multiple hand and power tools

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and make decisions
  • Holds necessary/required licenses
  • Knowledge and understanding of blueprints
  • Strong customer service, communication and computer skills
  • Experience working in Hospital environment a plus
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning machinery and components
  • Must possess a sense of ownership and pride in one’s work along with a service-oriented approach
  • Able to work independently and take initiative when necessary as well as capable of working as a member of a team and in conjunction with other trades
  • Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, perform work in accordance with recognized trade and Encompass Onsite Services standards
  • Must be quality focused, customer service oriented and able to routinely communicate with peers and customers, clearly and professionally
  • Must possess a high degree of honesty and integrity

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent GED
  • 6 months of trade related experience or background in commercial repair work, Including Floorcare experience. 
  • Valid driver’s license, with more than 1 year of driving experience
  • MVR report clear of moving violations or chargeable accidents in the past 3 years, or one major violation in the past 6 years
  • Must have own tools to complete all tasks 
  • Must speak English
  • Basic Customer Service
  • Must be able to work with Technology
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule



PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various tools in order to complete work assignments.
  • Significant reaching overhead, climbing, carrying, bending and kneeling may be required
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and push heavy carts or dollies
