- Plan and implement differentiated instructional strategies to support EL students' development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Provide instruction that allows EL students to access grade-level academic content while developing English language proficiency.
- Utilize research-based strategies and instructional resources that support second language acquisition.
- Administer the WIDA Screener to determine eligibility for ESOL services as required by state guidelines.
- Assist with the administration and coordination of the ACCESS for ELLs assessment and other language proficiency assessments.
- Monitor student progress toward English language proficiency and academic success.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, services, and required documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support instructional planning and differentiation for EL students.
- Provide strategies and resources to teachers to support language development within the content classroom.
- Participate in school-level problem-solving teams and student support meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and ESOL program services.
- Support families by providing translated communications or coordinating translation services when appropriate.
- Encourage family engagement in the educational process.
- Ensure compliance with Title III requirements, Georgia Department of Education guidelines, and district ESOL procedures.
- Participate in professional learning related to English language acquisition and instructional strategies for EL students.
- Attend required district and state ESOL training as assigned.

- Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and instructional strategies for English Learners.

Title: ESOL Teacher
Position Purpose
The ESOL Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to English Learner (EL) students to develop English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school staff to ensure EL students have meaningful access to the district's instructional program and are able to meet state academic standards while acquiring English language skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Note: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or other central office administrators.
Work Schedule: Work schedule is based on the teacher contract calendar as outlined in the Lee County School System Salary Guide.
Equipment: Use of district-required instructional technology, computers, learning management systems, and standard classroom equipment.
Travel Requirements: Travel to district facilities, professional learning sessions, ESOL program meetings, and other work-related locations as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Physical and Work Environment: Work is performed in classroom and school settings. The position may require standing, walking, supervising students in various school environments, and occasional lifting of instructional materials.
Qualifications
Certification/License:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: Successful teaching experience preferred. Experience working with English Learners and diverse student populations is preferred.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Georgia Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES) and Lee County School System procedures.
