Job Description

Activities Technician

FT / PT Status – Part-Time
Salary –
$17.00/hour  
Remote Work / In-Office –

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Wednesday: 4:00pm - 8:00pm. (May be required to work an occasional weekend day) Days Off: Saturday/Sunday

*Must be able attend New Employee Orientation (NEO), which is full time hours during the NEO training. Then employee will transition to their part-time position.

*Part time with with no benefits or leave accrual


Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

  • Implementing and independently running planned activities
  • Attending and assisting with all group acitivities
  • Completing all required and annual documentation
  • Learning to communicate with the intellectually disabled population and understanding their needs
  • Assisting with Greenhouse duties as needed
  • Working as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Acting as a resource to team members, participating in team and professional meetings and giving input as to the needs of clients
  • Ensuring the safety and maintenance of physical areas and equipment used during therapy/treatment
  • Developing appropriate safety and/or service plans to alleviate risk, provide protection, etc.
  • Inspecting facilities, machinery, equipment, systems, etc., to verify safety, maintenance, conditions, functions, and quality
  • Detecting, eliminating or minimizing safety hazards
  • Cleaning, and/or disinfecting areas and/or equipment
  • Ensuring confidentiality for the individuals by directing questions/requests to appropriate parties

Qualifications

Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:

  • This position requires you to be able to lift up to 50 pounds or 1/4 of your body weight, whichever is less with or without a reasonable accommodation. You will also be expected to use mechanical lifts where required and be able to transfer individuals correctly.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to meet the needs of the agency.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills using email, Internet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) in a professional office setting.

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications: 

  • One or more years of full time, paid experience working with intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Previous work experience in recreation/leisure skills training
  • Identify developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Treat people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
  • Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally
  • Obtain and see to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to perform a task
  • Observe details at close range and at a distance
  • Observe physical conditions, behavior or surroundings for potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity
  • Hear sounds that may indicate potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity

About the Role

An Activities Technician plans, prepares, and implements leisure activities for individuals at the institutions. Works under the direction of a licensed Recreational Therapist, Program Lead, or QIDP (Qualified Intellectually Disabled Professional). Monitors and observes behavioral patterns and functions of individuals or patients. Prepares and recommends therapeutic recreation and leisure education for individual clients, groups and units, and treatment mall. May train direct care staff on leisure activities.
