    QUALIFICATIONS
    • BSN, licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois
    • Professional Educator Licensure: School Nurse Licensure
    • IDPH Certification for Vision, Hearing, Spinal Screening Technician (preferred)
    • CPR Certification
    • Work experience in school nursing (preferred)
     
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Administrative:
     
    • Assists in developing and maintaining the total school health programs and policies
    • Cooperatively works with health aides delivering services to students and staff
    • Compile data and submit required annual ISBE and IDPH state reports
    • Maintain records, including physical, dental, eye exam and immunization records
    • Plans, maintains, and provides for distribution of health supplies
    • Perform accurate medication administration and documentation
     
    1. School Health Services
     
    • Supervises medications and medical treatments
    • Supervises compliance with mandated and recommended health records on students
    • Cooperatively work with and supervise RN, LPN, health aides, health care attendants as part of the health care team
    • Manage acute and chronic medical conditions per physician orders (including performance of related assessments, development of care/action plans, and communication with physician/parent/staff as needed; charting of treatments and instructions for student/parent/staff)
    • Supervises day-to-day non-emergency and emergency health care
    • Supervises and participates with other health team members with head lice and scabies control, vision and hearing screening, spinal screening, etc.
    • Administer EpiPen as directed for known allergy students and suspected reactions when general EpiPen orders have been obtained.  Provide teaching to staff regarding EpiPen use
    • Calculate carbohydrate intake, administer insulin per physician orders/diabetic care plan, and monitor diabetic care aides as appointed per building principal
    • Administer inhaler as directed per physician order and/or maintain records for inhalers carried by students during school hours
    • Provide special education health assistance and oversight (including collection and summarization of health information, participation in domain meeting and staffing meetings, recommendation toward and development of IEP health-related minutes/goals/objectives).  Also provide health assistance and oversight in the development of 504 accommodation plans
    • Develop, maintain and properly document special education health histories (including collection and summarization of information collected as well as reading summarization at staffing and 504 meeting)
    • Responsible for completing related training, administering, and interpreting COVID-19 Antigen testing for students and/or staff based on presenting symptoms, physical assessment, and completed permission to test form on file. Required documentation should be maintained, and test results must be reported to the appropriate agency in a timely manner.

    • Advises and consults with staff on health matters
