About the Department
This is a seasonal, non-union position, working 20-40 hours per week, including days, evenings and occasional weekends. The starting pay for this position is $16.00/hour, plus a certification bonus up to $1.75/hour for applicable certifications.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate has head coaching experience, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to connect with children from grades K-12, and an infectious enthusiasm for the sport of swimming.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work alongside head coach to plan, coordinate, and execute the recreational swim team of up to 150 children.
- Assist in swim team programming operations including, but not limited to, develop workouts for assigned age group practices, complete meet entries for dual and championship meets, set up & clean up swim meets.
- Work with parent/responsible adult volunteers to establish duties.
- Uses problem solving/creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that swimmers encounter.
- Ensure safety of team members and staff.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the Twinsburg Water Park.
- May be asked to instruct swim lessons or provide lifeguard surveillance duties
- Respond quickly and efficiently to all emergency situations.
- Maintain positive attitude and ensure high level of encouragement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must be able to swim. Experience in competitive swimming, or knowledge of stroke technique and development.
- Valid CPR/AED, First Aid certification.
- Current Lifeguard certification required and WSI certification preferred.
- Must have or willing to obtain the following by start of the season: Safety training for swim coaches, Lindsay’s Law (sudden cardiac arrest), and concussion training. All are free trainings and are required by USA swimming.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills (for children & parents).
- Regular, punctual in-person attendance.
- Ability to interact with and be courteous to fellow employees and participants of diverse backgrounds.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing abilities to monitor swimmers and the pool.
- Must be able to work with children.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
