Summary

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, review, and apply engineering standards, codes and specifications for all types of design, procurement and construction issues to ensure reliability of refining facilities.
  • Review designs and layouts of refinery equipment. Confer with process engineers regarding design problems.
  • Provide work direction, guidance and assistance to more junior team members.
  • Stay abreast of new technology as related to refining equipment.
  • Write specifications and requisitions for refinery material and equipment. Make recommendation for equipment changes that will improve refinery operations.
  • Assist with regulatory audits and reviews as needed.
  • Handle largest/most complex capital projects in the refinery from estimate stage through design, construction/installation and start-up.
  • Prepare purchasing documents for equipment and services as well as review invoices for purchased goods.
  • For projects performed by contractors, direct and oversee project schedules and budgets, work of contractors (quality assurance, control of construction, compliance and testing) and review of contractor drawings, specifications and purchase orders.
  • Work and support maintenance and operations on routine/day-to-day problems and issues. Troubleshoot equipment, piping, instruments, electrical or mechanical items.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in Equipment or Reliability Engineering 

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
