Perform a broad range of difficult technical work in the service, diagnosis and repair to all systems of specialized medium, heavy-duty gas and diesel powered generators, to include automatic transfer switches and other associated equipment. Work is performed under general supervision.

 

Position Duties


The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
  • Troubleshoot, test, diagnose, adjust, repair and service a variety of emergency standby generators.
  • Repair, overhaul and maintain both electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Fabricate. service and repair equipment as needed.
  • Perform precision adjustment and calibration using varied measuring devices.
  • Use hand or power tools and hoists, including a truck mounted hoist for field repair to install, remove, disassemble/assemble or adjust parts and replace units. Provide input in areas for new and replacement tools, equipment, and refurbishing existing equipment as requested.
  • Do related work as required.
  • Ability to use a personal computer.
  • Perform other job functions as required.
  • Perform general and major repair of another City equipment as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance. Comprehensive knowledge of the construction, design, repair, and adjustment of a wide variety of specialized medium and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the usual types of tools and equipment, as well as the special tools, gauges, machinery, and analyzing equipment used in the repair, service and maintenance of gas and diesel driven equipment.
  • Ability to detect by inspection any worn, defective or   improperly adjusted part of an assembly.
  • Ability to lift articles weighing more than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep accurate and timely records of repair and service operations.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • High school graduate or an equivalency diploma. 
  • Five (5) years experience in performing master level mechanical/electrical repair work. 
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
