Job Description

Your role at St John of God Burwood

We are seeking applications from qualified Counsellors to join our Allied Health team on a permanent full-time basis.

This position is responsible for providing assessment, counselling and follow-up for clients seeking assistance with substance use issues. This may involve brief interventions, counselling, initiating and managing planned treatment options, consultation and referral to other agencies or crisis management.

The intervention provided is based on current best practice models, including motivational interviewing, cognitive restructuring and social learning theories.

The Position

  • Accept responsibility for the implementation of a high standard of care for the safety of all patients.

  • Provide individualised and group clinical care based on professional training reflecting current ethical clinical practice throughout the Hospital as required.

  • Provide comprehensive assessment and care planning monitoring client progress adjusting treatment accordingly.

  • Evaluate clinical outcomes and participates in research activities as required.

  • Liaise with all staff to promote effective communication including verbal and written feedback to referring Doctor.

  • Knowledge of and complies with, legal, ethical responsibilities to patients, visitors and staff.

  • Maintain confidentiality and an appropriate professional relationship with staff and patients.

  • Participate regularly in clinical supervision and continues ongoing professional development through education.

  • Maintain appropriate clinical records reflecting adherence to hospital policies, ACHS and legal requirements. Completes weekly Allied Health Activity Sheets.

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of programs relevant to the needs of clients and current clinical practice.

We are seeking a dedicated healthcare professional who has demonstrated experience working in alcohol & drug mental health settings. You will have experience working and liaising with services, particularly Human Services and Health providers and have a strong understanding of harm minimisation approaches.

Successful applicants must hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Counselling and have membership with one of the following organisations: AASW, ACA or PACFA, AHPRA

  • Salary: $75,308 to $109,067 plus 12% Superannuation

  • Permanent full-time | 38 hours per week
