Description
The Athletic Trainer is a vital member of our hospital's sports medicine team, dedicated to providing comprehensive athletic training services to support high school athletics. This position involves delivering high-quality healthcare services, injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation to student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer will collaborate with coaches, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety, well-being, and optimal performance of the athletes participating in our hospital-affiliated high school sports programs.
Job Duties:
1. Injury Prevention and Evaluation:
- Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including warm-up routines, stretching exercises, and strength training protocols.
- Conduct pre-participation evaluations and screenings to identify potential health risks and assess the fitness levels of student-athletes.
- Perform ongoing assessments and evaluations of athletes' physical conditions, identifying and addressing any potential injury risks.
- Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention strategies, proper techniques, and safe training practices.
2. Emergency Care and Injury Management:
- Provide immediate care and first aid for injuries, illnesses, and emergencies that occur during practices, games, or events.
- Assess and triage injuries, determining the need for referral to physicians or specialists for further evaluation and treatment.
- Administer appropriate injury management, including applying splints, bandages, and braces, and coordinating medical referrals and appointments.
- Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans, monitor progress, and provide therapeutic exercises and modalities.
3. Rehabilitation and Return-to-Play:
- Develop and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, incorporating therapeutic exercises, modalities, and functional training.
- Monitor and document the progress of each athlete's rehabilitation, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Collaborate with physical therapists and other healthcare professionals to facilitate a safe and timely return-to-play process.
- Provide ongoing education and support to athletes, coaches, and parents on injury recovery, sport-specific conditioning, and injury prevention.
4. Collaborative Teamwork and Communication:
- Work closely with coaches, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to athlete care.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding injury prevention, treatment plans, and rehabilitation progress.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, documenting injuries, treatments, and progress notes in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in regular meetings and discussions with the sports medicine team to review and update protocols and best practices.
5. Health Education and Promotion:
- Conduct educational sessions and workshops for athletes, coaches, and parents on topics such as nutrition, hydration, concussion awareness, and injury prevention.
- Stay updated on the latest research, trends, and best practices in sports medicine and athletic training, attending conferences and continuing education programs.
- Actively participate in community outreach programs, such as health fairs, school events, and sports safety initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) certification from the Board of Certification (BOC).
- State licensure or eligibility for licensure as an athletic trainer.
- CPR/AED certification and First Aid training.
- Experience working as an athletic trainer in a high school or collegiate setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of sports-related injuries, injury prevention strategies, and rehabilitation protocols.
Work Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday with flexibility for school based athletic events.
