Job Description
Position Summary:
 
As the Regional Chief Therapy Officer, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic leadership and oversight of therapy operations within a designated region of Inpatient Rehabilitation hospitals, ensuring high standards of rehabilitation across all locations. You will play a key role in advancing therapy practice, strengthening patient outcomes, supporting hospital growth, and driving operational performance. As the Regional CTO, you will mentor and support hospital Chief Therapy Officers and therapy leaders while promoting best practices across all therapy departments.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Implements the strategic plan and priorities for hospital therapy leaders to ensure efficient and effective therapy operations that provide high quality, patient centered rehabilitation care across the region.
  • Oversees and leads the implementation of strategic plans, clinical objectives, policies, standards, procedures, and best practices that support excellence in therapy services at Nobis Rehabilitation Partners.
  • Guides and leads organization wide therapy programs and initiatives that drive continuous improvement, standardization, evidence-based practice, and strong patient outcomes.
  • Monitors and takes action to improve performance related to functional outcomes, discharge to community, patient satisfaction, therapy efficiency, and length of stay management.
  • Leads and champions quality and patient safety initiatives in partnership with nursing, case management, and medical leadership.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with senior operational leaders, physicians, community partners, and stakeholders to advance rehabilitation goals and objectives.
  • Ensures therapy services remain compliant with all applicable regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and payer requirements.
  • Provides regional oversight of survey readiness for therapy related standards and supports action planning following regulatory or accreditation reviews.
  • Leads regional strategy for obtaining, maintaining, and advancing CIHQ Center of Excellence in Rehabilitation Services (CERS) and Center of Excellence in  Rehabilitation Services - Stroke Care (CERS/SC) recognition across assigned hospitals.
  • Partners with hospital CTOs and executive teams to ensure ongoing compliance with CERS standards, evidence submission, mock surveys, and readiness activities.
  • Responsible for mentoring, onboarding, and development programs for hospital CTOs and therapy leaders in assigned hospitals.
  • Leads succession planning to ensure leadership continuity and accountability across therapy departments.
  • Leads the enhancement, oversight, and standardization of the Therapy Clinical Ladder program across the region. Ensures consistent criteria, advancement pathways, and evaluation processes aligned with organizational goals. Promotes clinician engagement, professional growth, and retention through structured development opportunities while maintaining alignment with clinical excellence, quality outcomes, and workforce strategy.
  • Provides strategic development, standardization, and oversight of the Therapy Student Program. Ensures strong academic partnerships, consistent onboarding experiences, and alignment with organizational clinical compliance, and compliance, and workforce development goals. Establishes program expectations, monitors student engagement and performance, and promotes conversion of high-performing students into future hires to support long-term staffing pipelines
  • Proactively initiates gap analysis and needs assessments to identify opportunities for leadership development, workflow improvement, and therapy practice advancement.
  • Sponsors and champions key therapy initiatives, programs, and task forces to improve patient care across Nobis Rehabilitation Partners.
  • Provides oversight of therapy staffing models, productivity management, labor performance, and contract labor reduction strategies.
  • Supports startup hospitals, acquisitions, and integration efforts related to therapy operations and leadership readiness.
  • Ability to develop professional-level education, training materials, and presentations for clinical and executive audiences
  • Provides regional oversight of therapy charge capture processes to ensure services rendered are accurately documented, billed, and reconciled in accordance with company standards.
  • Monitors hospital level therapy charge log, missed charges, documentation variances, and reconciliation timeliness.
  • Partners with hospital CTOs, finance, revenue cycle, and compliance leaders to resolve charge discrepancies and strengthen controls.
  • Ensures evaluations, treatment sessions, group therapy, concurrent therapy, and discipline specific services are supported by compliant documentation.
  • Develops standardized reconciliation workflows across assigned hospitals to reduce revenue leakage and manual rework.
  • Reviews trends related to denials, billing edits, missed charges, and documentation deficiencies impacting reimbursement.
  • Leads education for therapy leaders and staff regarding charging expectations, documentation integrity, and payer readiness.
  • Uses analytics to identify outliers in productivity, treatment capture, and charging patterns requiring follow up.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist required.
  • 5+ years of progressive therapy leadership experience, including experience as a Chief Therapy Officer or Director of Therapy.
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS IRF regulations, therapy operations, reimbursement, and interdisciplinary rehabilitation models.
  • Regional CTO role requires up to 75% travel.
  • Demonstrates strong executive presence with the ability to lead confidently in high-level settings, including interaction with CEOs, physicians, and governing bodies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver clear, concise, and influential messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency in technology platforms, including strong Excel capabilities for data analysis,  reporting, and performance tracking.
