POSITION SUMMARY 

 

Engineer is responsible for directing and coordinating the discipline technical effort on small to mid-size projects. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with respect to project scope, budget and scheduling when performing as a Project Lead Discipline Engineer. Additionally, this employee may provide a liaison between Discipline Engineers, Project Managers, and the Chief Discipline Engineer regarding the course of specific projects with respect to the discipline.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Automation Engineer IV 

Entry level engineer responsible for continuing portion of initial work experience, training and overall development.

  • Responsible for studies of limited scope requiring application of prescribed engineering methods. 
  • Responsible for assisting more senior engineers and/or leads in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design or computation methods.
  • Solve problems by applying standards and following detailed instructions. 
  • Make decisions within established guidelines, procedures and practices
  • Demonstrate initiative in carrying out periodic tasks independently and judgment in determining the methods to apply to assigned tasks.
  • Some familiarity with other departments and representatives of suppliers or contractors is required. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Automation Engineer III

A qualified engineering position that will be mainly under the general supervision of a senior engineer. 

  • Report unusual problems to senior engineers or specialists.
  • Solve problems by applying standards, procedures, best practices, and following detailed instructions. Also, use initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, and investigate design and field engineering difficulties.
  • Recommend changes in plans to improve overall design.
  • Make recommendations based on the acceptability of materials supplied and work completed by contractors and others. 
  • Exercise independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods and resolving difficulties.
  • Must have familiarity with other departments and representatives of suppliers or contractors is required. 
  • Responsibilities of levels IV

Automation Engineer II 

Midlevel engineers are responsible for sustained supervision of other engineers or the first level of full specialization.

  • Consult with suppliers or contractors to interpret specifications or other contract criteria. 
  • Responsibilities of levels IV-III

Automation Engineer I

Engineer responsible for directing and coordinating the discipline technical effort on small to mid-size projects. Engineer responsible for sustained supervision of other engineers or the first level of full specialization.

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed engineering work.
  • Participate in engineering and construction cost estimates.  
  • Contact associates in other departments to discuss and advise on project requirements. 
  • Collaborate with engineers to achieve expected quality levels in products.
  • Develop and initiate advanced automated testing methodologies.
  • Use a combination of testing methods including automated.
  • Coordinate and supervise testing activities.
  • Influence the inclusion of testability during design and development phases.
  • Responsibilities of levels IV-II 

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL 

  • Automation Engineer IV – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; Zero to two (0-2) years experience
  • Automation Engineer III – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; two to four (2-4) years experience
  • Automation Engineer II – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; four to six (4-6) years experience; registration as an EIT
  • Automation Engineer I - Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; six to nine (6-10) years experience’ registration as an EIT
