Job Summary:




The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Respiratory Therapist I Supervisor. The successful candidate will:



  • Oversee departmental educational activities including activities such as: orientation of new respiratory therapists, departmental in-services and educational programs; lectures and clinical training sessions for medical, nursing, and other staff.

  • May work days or nights based on staff educational needs.

  • Supervise, and evaluate respiratory therapy staff assigned to all areas and covering all age groups.

  • Provide respiratory care for acute patients under the direction of a physician, including but not limited to drawing blood gases for analysis, adjustment of ventilation or other equipment within the limits of the physician's instructions, and recording respiratory progress in patient records. 

  • Oversee the shift and assist the RT's with patient care concerns; oversee hand-off huddles.

  • Assist with scheduling.

  • Supervise the transport, disinfection, and sterilization of equipment as per infection control guidelines.

  • Evaluate in performance of subordinates and ensure that departmental goals are met.

  • Participate in departmental & hospital performance improvement initiatives; this may include special projects and data collection.

  • Participate in product evaluations and treatment planning.

  • Perform other duties related to the efficient and effective operation of the respiratory care department to ensure a high level of patient care is maintained.






Required Qualifications:





  • New York State Respiratory Therapist License.

  • Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a two-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program. 

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).

  • BLS (or to be obtained within 1-year of hire date).

  • NRP required to work NICU.






Preferred Qualifications:





  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

SL-4



Salary Range:




Commensurate with experience and qualifications
