Job Description

Qualifications:


• High school diploma or equivalency required


• College degree preferred


• Fluent in all skill areas in English and Spanish


• Computer proficient


• Completion of Interpreter/Translator training-Specialized training will be provided


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


• Experience in providing interpretation services preferred


• Basic understanding of functions of public school preferred


• Basic understanding of NC student accountability standards preferred


• Experience with public speaking


• Exceptional organizational skills


 


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


• Interpret for teachers and administrators to explain NC student accountability program to parents


• Translate all LEA /school site materials into Spanish


• Assist with Kindergarten and Preschool screening and provide information to and notification of potential parents and students


• Assist with the enrollment of new students


• Maintain documentation of parent contacts, translations, and home visits


• Collaborate with administrators and teachers by coordinating multiple conferences


• Provide interpreting during testing for Special Education or AIG services when needed


• Complete additional training as required by Director of Federal Programs


• Perform other duties as determined by Director of Federal Programs


• Coordinate interpretation/translation request for other languages with selected translation services as needed


• Assist with parent engagement activities


• Assist in communication with the community through newspaper, TV, radio, flyers about school events


• Contact parents, schedule and interpret or:


• Parent/teacher conferences


o Home visits with social workers
o School health personnel information to parents
o District-wide or school wide events upon request from schools o Parent night events (PTA) upon request from schools
