Job Description

2026-2027 Special Education Instructional Specialist at D28 & Township Elementary Districts

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits Eligibility: Eligible for full-time benefits for certified personnel
Work Year: 8/17/2026 - 5/28/2027
Days Off: 10 holidays plus winter break (10 days) and spring break (5 days)
Schedule: 8:15am - 3:45pm

Qualifications & Licensure:

  • Professional Educator License with LBS1 (or equivalent special education credential)
  • Advanced Degree with coursework in special education, instructional coaching, and curriculum design is preferred
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and coaching skills
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide job-embedded professional learning by modeling specially designed instruction, observing classroom practice, co-planning lessons and interventions aligned to IEP goals, and delivering actionable feedback at D28 and Township Elementary Districts
  • Utilize student-centered coaching practices and the Gradual Release of Responsibility model to build teacher capacity in inclusive instruction, differentiation, progress monitoring, executive functioning supports, and behavior intervention planning
  • Collaboratively identify district-wide professional learning needs related to special education and MTSS through classroom observations, collaboration, and feedback cycles
  • Develop, monitor, and support implementation of special education intervention models across settings, ensuring fidelity, data collection, and alignment to IEP goals and district curriculum
  • Facilitate collaborative analysis of student work and progress monitoring data with teachers and administrators to strengthen instructional decision-making and student growth
  • Support alignment of instruction, accommodations, modifications, and assessment practices to IEP goals, state standards, and district reporting systems
  • Evaluate and recommend instructional materials, intervention programs, and assessment tools that support diverse learners
  • Collaborate with administrators, general education teachers, related service providers, and specialists to strengthen inclusive systems and cohesive implementation of student supports
  • Participate in building and district leadership meetings and committees
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:
10 Month Position; salary and benefits as determined annually by the D28 Board of Education
