Description
The part-time Medical Director assists in providing medical guidance for the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. This role facilitates community and clinical knowledge, understanding, and support of PA education and practice. The Medical Director also supports the effective administration of the Pace University Physician Assistant Program–Pleasantville Campus, assists in clinical site recruitment, development, and maintenance, and provides student instruction.
Must not participate as health care providers for students in the program, except in an emergency.
Position Duties
- Work with the Program Director to ensure that ARC-PA Standards and NYS office of Professions requirements for physician assistant education are met.
- Actively engage in the identification of new clinical sites, clinical site development and monitoring with the Clinical Coordinator.
- Participate in the evaluation and modification of the curriculum to ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards, NYS Office of Professions regulations for physician assistant education are met and ensure that both didactic instruction and supervised clinical practice experiences meet current practice standards as they relate to the PA role in providing patient care.
- Coordinate maintenance of ARC-PA standards and NYS program requirements and participate in ARC-PA accreditation report and self-study activities and analysis.
- Facilitate communication between the program and the medical community by serving as a member of the PA Program Advisory Committee as needed.
- Provide service to the Pace University academic community as a member of the PA Program Admission Committee, Progression and Promotion Committee and other committees as assigned by the Program Director and other University committees as desired.
- Annually participate in the review of the program’s Mission, Vision, and Goals.
- Actively participate in the program and curriculum evaluation, assessment and revision, and the Program’s Self-study process.
- Provide student instruction and participate in the evaluation of student performance as available.
- Participate in the PA Program’s admissions process and actively participate in the selection of applicants to enter the program.
- Participate in the assessment and revision of program’s admissions process to meet the admission goals of the program and the community.
- Clinical practice is not a requirement of the position. Maintenance of currency of the medical practice standards and education are the individual’s responsibility.
- Participation in scholarly activities is not a requirement however is strongly encouraged.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
- Currently or previously licensed PA or osteopathic or allopathic physician OR currently or previously board-certified.
- Academic experience required.
Work Hours
Exact hours to be determined with supervisor; generally up to 20 hours per week.
