Position Title: K-5 Special Education Teacher (Essential Skills Classroom) - Temporary Position for a Leave

Previous Teaching Experience Required: Preferred but not required.
General Description of Position Duties: Lebanon Community School Corporation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to lead a K–5 Essential Skills- Life Skills classroom. The ideal candidate will provide highquality instruction and support to students with significant cognitive, adaptive, and developmental needs in alignment with Indiana Article 7 and IDEA guidelines. This role requires strong collaboration with general education staff, related service providers, families, and paraprofessionals to ensure students receive individualized, meaningful, and inclusive educational opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned to student needs, goals, and state standards.
• Provide direct instruction in functional academics, adaptive behavior, communication, and daily living skills.
• Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student independence and social-emotional growth.
• Use evidence-based practices, assistive technology, and differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and administrators to support inclusion and access to the general curriculum.
• Supervise and support paraprofessionals in carrying out instructional and behavioral interventions.
• Monitor and document student progress through data collection, assessments, and ongoing communication with families.
• Participate in case conferences, professional development, and staff meetings.
• Comply with all state and federal special education regulations, including Indiana Article 7 requirements.
Qualifications:
• Valid Indiana Teaching License in Special Education (Mild, Moderate, Severe/Profound Disabilities, or Intense Interventions).
• Experience with Life Skills programming or students with significant support needs preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IEPs, functional curriculum, behavioral supports, and communication systems (e.g., PECS, AAC).
• Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to building positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
Physical and Mental Efforts:
• This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance
• Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices.
• Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time
• Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another.
• Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly
• Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision. • Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
