Position Overview
The 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction that develops students’ understanding of history, geography, government, economics, and global cultures. The teacher will foster critical thinking, civic awareness, and historical inquiry while supporting the academic and social development of middle school students. The ideal candidate creates an inclusive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, collaboration, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons in social studies that engage students in historical thinking, geographic literacy, and civic understanding.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and resources to meet diverse learning needs.
- Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports student learning and appropriate behavior.
- Integrate reading, writing, discussion, and research skills into social studies instruction.
- Encourage student participation in inquiry, debate, and collaborative learning activities.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, intervention staff, and administrators to support student success.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and required documentation.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school initiatives.
- Follow district policies, procedures, and curriculum guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, History, or a related field.
- Valid [State] teaching license appropriate for middle school Social Studies (Grades 4–9 or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of social studies content and middle school instructional practices.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous middle school teaching experience.

Physical Demands

- Ability to occasionally lift instructional materials or classroom supplies up to 25 pounds.
