Job Description

Supervised by:  Director

12 month position

General Description:

The Health and Nutrition Compliance Manager is responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives of the Head Start Program Performance Standards pertaining to health and nutrition, including CACFP . They will also provide professional development to staff regarding health and nutrition compliance following local, state, and federal guidelines.  The Health and Nutrition Compliance Manager will provide support to the children and families participating in the programs and serve as a resource to teachers and family services staff.   This position also participates in after school or evening meetings.  This is a traveling position. 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assessment, Referral and Follow-up:
  • Establish and maintain a health tracking and case management system of referrals and follow-up for health-related concerns in collaboration with Family Advocates, Health Assistant and EHS staff.
  • Track and update physicals, immunization schedules, height, weight, vision, hearing, head circumference, social emotional screenings, nutrition and dental screenings.
  • Assist with Preschool screenings every fall
  • Assist with tasks provided by the Director
  • Assist with Intakes for families entering the program (including interviews)

Health Services:

  • Support student mental health with resources and referrals.
  • Provide oversight and monitoring of the dental program in collaboration with family advocates and families.  
  • Provide oversight and monitoring of the nutrition program in collaboration with the designated registered dietician.  
  • Provide oversight of the mental health program in collaboration with the mental health consultant.
  • Develop monthly monitoring reports for Management Team Meetings.
  • Maintain documentation of Individual Health Plans for children with medical concerns in collaboration with Office Support Assistant.
  • Attend State Health Advisory Committee Meetings.
  • Plan and attend monthly Orange County Head Start Health Advisory Committee Meetings.
  • Conduct routine health, sanitation, and safety checks for classroom and playgrounds in scheduled rotation with other members of the Management Team.
  • Serve as support for custodial staff.
  • Provide health education resources for staff and families.

Nutrition:

  • Oversee the creation of menus/meal plans for Head Start, Virginia Preschool Initiative, Early  Head Start and other preschool classrooms monthly.  Menus will be prepared using USDA guidelines and adhere to the goals and objectives of the Head Start Performance Standards. This includes menus with special dietary needs.
  • In charge of CACFP meal monitoring 

Adherence to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

Communication:  

  • Serve as a point of contact for area supervisors, families, center and support staff for health, nutrition, mental health, safety and medical concerns.
  • Establish and maintain working partnership with community health service professionals, including school nurses.
  • Participate in family services and case management meetings, center team meetings and staff meetings.

Conduct home visits as needed.

Monitoring:

  • Monitor compliance with health standards through an established tracking system and coordination with Family Advocates.  Provide monitoring of program operations in accordance with the current Monitoring Plan.  
  • Monitoring ongoing Mental Health supervision and practices with outside agencies.
  • Monitoring forms and documents related to health and well being of each student enrolled.  
  • Routine monitoring of CACFP regulations and guidelines.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in Go Engage.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with program policy.
  • Provide a written health summary for children transitioning from the program, as needed.

Child Abuse and Neglect:

The Health Manager is mandated to report any suspected abuse or neglect of children in the home or the classroom to the Orange County Department of Social Services, Child Protective Services Unit.

Professional Development:

Participate in Head Start training, career and professional development activities as recommended by the program director.  Assist management team in planning a comprehensive program training program for staff and parents.

Qualifications:

Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) preferably related to one or more of the disciplines overseen, 1302.91.   Must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.  Must have working knowledge of health services, child development and computer software.
