    Job Title: Spanish Teacher

    Position Purpose

     

    Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Spanish Teacher is responsible for developing students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing in a language other than English. The teacher fosters an understanding and appreciation of the cultures and traditions of countries where the language is the primary means of communication.

    Essential Functions

     
    • Develops and implements a comprehensive foreign language curriculum aligned with school goals.

    • Creates a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and conducive to individualized and small-group learning.

    • Designs lesson plans and instructional materials that promote sequential learning, challenge students appropriately, and optimize instructional time.
       

    • Instructs students in the target language, including comprehension, grammar, syntax, vocabulary, composition, communication, and translation of literature.

    • Promotes cultural understanding and appreciation for the traditions and customs of countries where the target language is spoken.

    • Guides students in preparing materials for language-related projects, publications, and competitions.

    • Assesses student progress through formal and informal methods; adapts instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including those of students with special needs.

    • Provides individual and small group instruction to support differentiated learning.

    • Pursues ongoing professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and seminars, and by staying informed on current trends in language education.

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Foreign Language Education, Linguistics, or related field.

    • Valid teaching certification or licensure for the appropriate grade levels and subject area.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in the target language (both written and spoken).

    • Strong knowledge of second-language acquisition theory and effective instructional strategies.

    • Commitment to faith-based education and alignment with the mission of Providence.

    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
