About the Role

American Combustion Industries (ACI) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Plumbing Sales Engineer to join our team in Glenn Dale, MD. This role combines technical expertise in plumbing systems with the strategic mindset of a sales professional. You’ll play a key role in growing ACI’s plumbing division by developing client relationships, creating tailored service solutions, and driving revenue across commercial and institutional markets.

This position offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Represent a trusted name in mechanical contracting with over 40 years of industry excellence.
  • Bridge the gap between technical plumbing knowledge and customer solutions, becoming a valued partner to your clients.
  • Work independently in the field while collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, and service teams.
  • Shape your own success through a performance-driven compensation structure.
  • Be part of a high-performing team that values integrity, teamwork, and professional growth.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who combines technical plumbing knowledge with business savvy. You thrive in the field—meeting clients, diagnosing challenges, and crafting creative, value-driven solutions. You’re energized by building trust, winning new business, and seeing your work make a tangible difference in customers’ operations. You’re detail-oriented when it comes to estimating, but also strategic in planning and relationship management. Most importantly, you’re someone who takes pride in representing a respected company and contributing to its continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Client Consultation & Solution Design (30%)

  • Meet with clients to assess plumbing system needs, identify issues, and provide effective solutions.
  • Recommend service options such as system repairs, retrofits, and preventative maintenance agreements.
  • Deliver expert guidance and technical insight to support customer decision-making.

Relationship Management & Customer Retention (30%)

    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing clients.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor, helping customers optimize their plumbing systems and operations.
    • Follow up regularly to ensure client satisfaction and identify additional service opportunities.

    Estimating & Proposal Development (20%)

    • Prepare accurate, competitive estimates and proposals for plumbing projects and maintenance contracts.
    • Collaborate with internal estimators and project managers to define project scope, pricing, and specifications.
    • Ensure proposals align with client needs, budgets, and compliance requirements.

Business Development & Lead Generation (10%)

    • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within commercial, institutional, and government sectors.
    • Generate leads through networking, referrals, and participation in local trade and industry events.
    • Maintain an active pipeline of potential clients and track progress through CRM tools.

    Collaboration & Reporting (10%)

    • Work closely with service and operations teams to ensure smooth project handoffs and exceptional service delivery.
    • Maintain detailed records of all client interactions, proposals, and progress within CRM systems.
    • Provide regular updates on sales performance, forecasts, and business development activities.
