    Primary Purpose:
    Help meet physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside Applied Academics classroom. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP) and/or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
     
    Qualifications:
     
    Education/Certification:
    • Associates Degree or minimum of 48 college credits
    • Paraprofessional Certification for Educational Aide or other such credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification.
     
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to work well with children
    • Knowledge of general office equipment
     
    Preferred Experience:
    • Previous successful experience working with children
    • TBSI/CPI Training
     
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
     
    1. Demonstrate acceptable work habits including teamwork, initiative and dependability.
    2. Report to work on time each day.
    3. Perform routine clerical duties.
    4. Assist the teacher in preparing Special Ed instructional materials and classroom displays.
    5. Work with individual special needs students or Special Ed small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
    6. Assist with the administration and scoring of Special Ed tests and assignments.
    7. Assist in supervising special education students throughout the school day, both inside and outside of the schools. This may include lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
    8. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
    9. Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
    10. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
    11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
    12. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
    13. Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
    14. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
    15. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
    16. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
    17. Maintain confidentiality.
    18. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
