Description

The Assistant Director of Afterschool and Day Camp is responsible for assisting with the planning and overall operation of a high-quality Afterschool program, including assisting the oversight of 7D transportation, overseeing all Afterschool sites and assisting with the Quincy Day Camp operations, while promoting YMCA core values and encouraging lifelong learning. This position must maintain a welcoming and engaging environment for children, staff and families which meet Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) standards and Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) licensing regulations and Quincy Day Camp Board of Health requirements. This position must demonstrate high quality member service to all program participants, families, members, and volunteers.

CORE EXPECTATIONS:

 

  1. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Planning and execution of all Afterschool program sites and assisting with oversight of the Quincy Afterschool & Day Camp programs to fulfill YMCA objectives. Responsible for maintaining compliance in all related areas including EEC licensing procedures and regulations, working towards increased QRIS levels and promoting YUSA Healthy Eating Physical Activity (HEPA). Responsible for safety and operations of all transportation during the school year including maintenance, scheduling and staffing of seven 7D vehicles and QPS school bus student drop off. Provide reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities to participate in activities whenever possible and to meet each child’s individual needs according to EEC and ADA.  This position’s responsibilities include School Vacation and Extension Weeks, Schools Out/Snow Day Programs and Day Camp Assistant Director responsibilities. He/she will provide operational leadership for age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate multi-cultural programs / activities and support families through guidance and new opportunities for lasting personal and social change. Development and maintaining collaborative relationships with Quincy Public Schools, and all community partners is essential.

 

  1. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Supervision of program staff and participants in accordance with the organization's policies, EEC regulations, applicable laws, and QRIS Standards.  Monitor and communicate with supervisors all staff related EEC, QRIS, Quincy Board of Health and South Shore YMCA requirements.  Day Camp responsibilities include assisting with operations as determined based on programmatic need.

 

 

  1. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Building relationships with and among families and members, responding to inquiries and solving problems.  Creates a supportive community environment, recruits and engages new families, and connects families to the YMCA’s cause. 

 

  1. FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Works with Director, Site Contacts, Site Coordinators, Group Leaders and Director of Day Camp to ensure that program facilities and equipment for children are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive. 

 

  1. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Responsible for engaging and working with volunteers including managing Day Camp Leaders in Training program.

 

 

  1. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

May assist in YMCA fund raising activities/events and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

Requirements

  • Completion or in process of attaining a bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with school age children.
  • Must have six months of administrative experience or evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administration subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge and experience with EEC regulations and Board of Health Day Camp requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience with QRIS is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in budget development and management, staff and volunteer development, planning, supervision and fundraising.
  • Computer proficiency required: Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel. Training in South Shore YMCA in-house software provided.
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with, staff, children & families, volunteers, school administrators, members, community leaders and other agencies are critical to this position.
  • Effective teaching skills, the ability to implement methods to address and follow up with family needs/concerns in a positive and professional way reflecting an attitude that values diversity. 
  • Must meet EEC Educator Professional Development requirements per QRIS standards and the Afterschool Program’s goals.  Professional Development must include at least one third of required trainings that address diverse learners. PQ Registry must remain current and reflect all PD hours, trainings and college level courses.
  • Obtain a 7D pupil transport license within the first 60 days.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity. Activities that may be required as part of the job are climbing, running, swimming and other outdoor activities.
